Parents of our 2011 Alaskan Malamute litter
Some explanationsWe planned to have our first litter since 2008. But before this, we decided to do things well.
So we have started with the acquisition of an affix, register for AMCF (Alaskan Malamute Club de France) and develop our website.
We looked for a affix name for our kennel and I wanted our affix remember the names of our two parents, namely Urok and Coleen . So I tried to make a play on words with "De La Coleen Urok" and "Of Roc Hill" (translated in French).
Once the affix chosen, the AMCF registration done, the website developed, and various sanity checks of our dogs certified (dysplasia and eyes), we attempted mating. First, we had to wait until the heat cycle of Coleen, interrupted by injections, becomes normal. Then, during 2 periods of heat, we attempted the mating between Urok and Coleen, but each time Coleen has remained empty.
Following these failures of breeding between Urok and Coleen, we did a lot of analysis in order to determinate which one of our 2 malamutes got a problem.
It's our Urok which is not enough fertile : even if he is not completely infertile, there is no chance that a breeding with him product a litter.
We decided to find an other sire for our bitch Coleen in order to get our first litter of puppies of Malamutes.
We took contact with a couple of breeders of the "Mountain Pack" affix which have, among others, a very beautiful and good sire, "Black Kodiak Of Mountain Pack" which is already father of a forty puppies. Kodiak is then a very good sire, with good origins and moreover, he looks strongly to Urok in colors and shape.
Mating was done on december 10th, 2010, and birth was on February 10th, 2011.
The puppies will conform to the guidelines of AMCF, l'Alaskan Malamute Club de France : mating was done between :
Black Kodiak of Mountain Pack
Dysplasia A, free of eyes defects, valuation 4
Coleen River Du Clan d'Ukiok
Dysplasia A, free of eyes defects, valuation 2
Puppies valuation was 4 + 2 = 6 and a pedigree preview of the litter is available.
An ultrasound has confirmed the presence of pups, 6 at least.
